What is Matt up to these days?

Matt 's been very busy, cashing in on the summer you might say. We've gone through a lot of changes these past few months and Matt has been at the helm keeping our little ship sailing along. When we realized that real estaste was more of a necesary evil than a DeWever enterprise, Matt began to investigate new paths.

When he first started college at BBC, teaching was his declared major... but he saw too many die-cuts and too much of Mrs. Schwartz! He transitioned into Pre-Seminary/Greek/Hospitality and was happy. But he is a natural teacher and has a wonderful demeanor with kids, so when real estate was slow he did some substitute teaching for extra cash. Well... Matt really enjoyed himself (not the 1st and 2nd graders though) in the public school! He applied to be a para-profesional for the up-coming school year at Russell Elementary School (less than 2 miles from the house) and will be a one-on-one aid for a little guy in 6th grade. He starts this new job in two days, and we'll both have weekends free!!!

But what to do for the summer? Both Matt's parents work for Beckett, a school & residential program for at-risk boys in the Central NH area. They knew Matt would fit right in and recommended him for a summer position working in the Rumney House (yes, less than 2 miles from home!) as a counselor. Essentially, he replaced his mom for the summer because she wanted a break.

Voila! Everyone's happy.

So Matt practiced his patience with teenage boys this summer. They did all sorts of fun stuff: hiking, water parks, bowling, moose hunting, you name it! And he really developed a love for the kids & the job. Now it's time for him to move to a public school and he's considdering a Master's Degree in counselling, which can be used in both the public & private sectors. Let's hope this next phase helps solidify that decision.
